Of the 27 incidents in the Singapore Strait, 19 occurred in the eastbound lanes near the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan. Most of the incidents (23) involved bulk carriers and tankers, three involved tugs and barges, and one involved an offshore supply vessel towing an oil rig. In nine incidents, the perpetrators were reported to be armed, but only one reported physical assault on the crew, with one being pushed to the floor and strapped into the cabin. #PE coated paper roll supplier

ReCAAP underscores the industry’s role in being vigilant about attacks and reporting incidents, even when nothing has been stolen. Earlier in the day, ReCAAP held a dialogue session with the Singapore shipping industry. “The shipping industry is one of our key partners in the fight against piracy and armed robbery. It is through vigilance of seafarers, and the best management of incidents and mitigation, that our sea lanes are kept safe and maritime trade and commerce guaranteed. The shipping industry is an important partner. If ships do not report incidents, enforcement by coastal states will not be effective.” #pe coated paper roll for paper cup

ReCAAP believes there are some incidents that go unreported because, based on industry feedback, some feel there is no need to report incidents where nothing has been stolen, and they fear ships will be detained for investigation. “But we think the most important thing is that we take every reported incident very seriously, whether it’s petty theft or nothing being stolen, and as soon as someone is on board, we’re going to pay attention.”

While there has been an increase in armed robbery incidents in Asia, 73% of the actual crimes fall into the least tier 4 incident, where the robbers board the ship unarmed and wounding people. There has also been no serious level 1 incident, meaning no crew has been seriously injured or taken captive, and no cargo has been hijacked. The second and third level incidents were also the same as the same period last year, with one and 10 incidents, respectively. #PE coated raw materail paper sheet

The hijacking of ships has improved in many countries and regions last year, including Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia, and what is more concerning is the situation in the Singapore Strait.
